Red Innova 2012: technology, innovation and enterprise
The third edition of La Red Innova opens in Madrid on Thursday, a major event for technology based businesses. During two days, attendees will be able to attend presentations by leading experts and representatives from key companies from around the world, as well as meeting some of the young IT companies that are emerging on both sides of the Atlantic.
BBVA will be taking a leading role, not only by actively participating in the organisation of the Open Talent competition for start-ups, but also through the presentation on Smart Cities that will given by project manager Marcelo Soria, who will talk about the use of data in developing and providing new services for citizens.
A CIO can’t wait to be told what to do
The latest issue of the e-newsletter (e-penteo. March 2012. Nº 7) published by the consultancy Penteo (on Twitter: @PenteoAnalyst), which is sent out to subscribers only, all of whom are CIOs, includes a lengthy interview by journalist Manuel Ángel Méndez (on Twitter: @m_angelmendez) with our CIO, José Olalla (on Twitter: @PepeOlalla), in which he explains the reasons for the bank’s move to Google Apps (by the end of this year, BBVA’s 110,000 employees worldwide will be using Gmail, Docs, Groups, Chat and Video, etc. for their daily work) and his vision of the role of the CIO in the age of social software.
Below you can find an extensive overview of the most interesting parts of this interview.
Easybank is… BBVA 2020
Over the past 30 years, the world has undergone a period of great change with profound business, social and financial implications. Although we tend to overvalue the short-term effect of technology and underestimate its effect in the long term, what is certain is that communication speed and mobility are rapidly changing the world we live in. Today, anyone who wishes to can be connected at any time, from any location. As a result, the traditional banking model (branch-based banking) is clearly in decline. However, the branch (seen as the point of contact with the customer) will still be around in the future.
For banking, this is a real revolution that is pushing us towards a people-centred model. That is why, based on multichannel strategies, 21st century banking must respond to the expansion of the Internet, new payment methods and customers’ ability to gain remote access from all kinds of devices (smartphones, tablets, TVs), integrating services, products and physical points of contact into a total experience for the customer.
We like Social networks, the Cloud, Android, Jobs and tablets
We use social networks intensively, although Spanish-speaking users do so less than English-speakers.
That would be the main conclusion of the survey we carried out last week (between 13 and 16 February) to mark the first anniversary of BBVAtech (the name used by the BBVA Technology and Operations area in the online world).
